In May, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will be opening its new electronic drone services, which allow users to register as drone operators, sign up for the online theoretical knowledge examination and check their own information. The services can be accessed using Suomi.fi e-Identification. The new online services will allow Traficom to offer a wider range of electronic services to drone operators in the future.

The new online services allow users to check their own information. Initially, users who sign in to the services will be able to check their operator ID and remote pilot identification number, the period of validity of their registration and A1/A3 online theoretical knowledge examination and update their contact information. In addition to this, companies and organisations will be able to check and update the information of their contact persons.

Access requires Suomi.fi e-Identification

In future, the services will only be accessible via Suomi.fi e-Identification using online banking credentials, for example. Representatives of companies and organisations will also only be able to use the drone services with the help of Suomi.fi e-Authorizations.

Before a company or organisation can access the service, they must grant their contact person the Suomi.fi mandate "drone-operaattorin rekisteröinti- ja lupa-asioiden hoito". The mandate can be granted to multiple persons, but for now companies and organisations can only register one person as their contact person.

The drone services can also be used on behalf of another person.  For example, the service can be used to sign up an underage person for the drone operator’s online theoretical knowledge examination or take care of matters on behalf of a person who cannot use Suomi.fi e-Identification. In these cases, the person using the service on behalf of another must also be granted the Suomi.fi mandate "drone-operaattorin rekisteröinti- ja lupa-asioiden hoito".

Changes in the sign-up process for the A1/A3 online theoretical knowledge examination

As part of the introduction of the new drone services, the sign-up process for the A1/A3 online theoretical knowledge examination has also changed. Private individuals can now receive a link to the examination free of charge when registering as a drone operator. The link will remain valid for one month. Users who do not complete the examination during this time will have to personally sign up for the online theoretical knowledge examination and pay the exam fee.

You can access the electronic drone services from the Registration and theoretical examination page (External link) of the Droneinfo website.
